Y&R Recap Fri Jul 31: Victor Tells Nikki His Love for Her Outweighs His Hatred of Jack
Phyllis wakes up in an empty bed and fears that Matt has vanished without a word. Across town, Noah’s worry about Sienna’s soft spot for Matt Clark boils over into a fight neither one saw coming. Victor tells Nikki that his love for her is stronger than his hatred for Jack Abbott and asks her to come home, but Matt has other plans, showing up without his ankle monitor and with a whole new set of terms. This episode of The Young and the Restless airs Friday, Jul 31st, 2026 in the USA, and one day ahead in Canada.
Genoa City Athletic Club – Nikki Wants to Address the Source of Trouble Between Her and Victor
Victor and Nikki are having breakfast together and Nikki is fascinated by the sight of her breakfast.
Nikki admits that she didn’t even dare hope that her sight would return.
Nikki and Victor have been to see Nick at rehab already this morning, and they are both heartbroken to see him in that place.
Victor notes it’s good at least that Nick landed in rehab by choice, but they both admit they’re very worried about him.
Nikki is sorry for all the pain she caused Victor with her own struggles with addiction. Victor says there’s nothing for her to be sorry for, he just doesn’t want anyone he cares about to have to face addiction alone.
Nikki is still waiting for an answer from Victor: where do things stand between the two of them now that her vision has returned?
Victor just wants to focus on gratitude for Nikki’s recovered sight and hopes for Nick’s recovery. Nikki is concerned that the two of them are just falling into familiar old patterns without addressing the problems that actually tore them apart.
Phyllis’s GCAC Suite – Phyllis Wakes Up Alone and Fears the Worst
Phyllis wakes up in bed alone following her tryst with Matt. She fears that he’s fled Genoa City without even saying goodbye.
Phyllis dresses herself in a robe and searches the suite for him but doesn’t even find a note.
Crimson Lights – Noah Learns Nick Has Checked Into Rehab and Admits to Sharon That He Plans to Run Matt Out of Town
Noah drops by and notices Sharon packing up mulberry muffins for Nick. She offers him one, but he won’t take it.
Sharon can tell something is bothering Noah, and he admits that he’s worried Matt is manipulating Sienna. Sharon insists that Sienna is too smart to fall for Matt’s tricks.
Noah isn’t so sure; he saw the way Sienna was talking about Matt. He feels that Matt has already won Sienna over, and he’s scared.
Noah worries that Sienna feels personally guilty for all Matt has done. He suggests that believing there’s some good in Matt makes her feel less stupid for not having seen the darkness in him.
Sharon thinks letting go of that guilt might be a good thing, but Noah objects that Sharon knows better than anyone how dangerous it is to cut Matt any slack at all. Sharon admits that this has been her experience.
Noah plans to force Matt to leave town. Sharon doesn’t think Matt needs to be forced to leave town. Noah says that Victor’s security team told him that Matt has made no actual move to leave town. His tracking bracelet data shows him at his cabin on Victor’s ranch, and he hasn’t been going around saying goodbye.
Noah says he wanted to talk to Nick about Matt’s activities but hasn’t been able to get ahold of him. Sharon admits that Nick has checked into a rehab clinic.
Noah is shocked; he thought Nick had already handled this and put it behind him. Sharon explains that addiction is a lifelong fight, pointing out that even Nikki still goes to meetings. She says it’s encouraging that Nick has been proactive about getting help.
Noah wants to go see Nick immediately, but Sharon says Nick has asked for a few days before anyone visits. She mentions that Victor and Nikki visited him this morning and he was completely blindsided.
Noah blames Matt for all of this: if he hadn’t caused the car crash Nick would have never taken his first pill. He says Matt needs to go, now.
The Shadow Room – Matt Asks Sienna to Make His Case to the Newman Family
Sienna is rattling off inventory orders to someone she assumes is Noah, but Matt startles her when he speaks up and tells her she needs to start locking the door when they’re closed.
Sienna is surprised to see him; she thought he’d have left town by now. Matt says he’s come to ask for a favor.
Matt says he thought their conversation the other day was going well until Noah got involved. Sienna acknowledges that she doesn’t think Matt is a total creep.
Matt hopes that Sienna can convince the Newman family that he’s not a monster. Sienna asks if Matt was serious about leaving town, and he admits he’s cooled off on the idea. He no longer believes he needs to sacrifice his entire life to please the Newmans. Matt says there are people around who can actually appreciate the new man he’s become, and so he plans to stick around in Genoa City.
Sienna asks if he’s joking. Matt says he’s serious, and that he believes she can convince Noah and the rest of the Newman family that he’s no threat to them. He says he just wants to be left alone.
Sienna doesn’t think she can convince them Matt’s changed when Matt himself has failed. Matt doesn’t think they’ll believe anything from him, but he hopes Sienna has some credibility.
Genoa City Athletic Club – Phyllis Warns Victor That She’s Going to Outmaneuver Him in Business and Then Focuses on Her Anxiety About Matt’s Unexplained Absence
Phyllis comes downstairs from her suite and spots Victor and Nikki instantly. She strides over to their table and expresses her surprise that they’re even speaking.
Nikki says Phyllis is interrupting a private conversation, and Phyllis promises what she has to say won’t take long. Phyllis says she’s come to inform Victor that he won’t get away with his latest act of sabotage.
She complains that there’s nothing worth salvaging in Arabesque. Victor says he thought she enjoyed a challenge, and she says she intends to rebuild it and give Newman Enterprises a run for its money. Victor wishes her luck.
Phyllis says she doesn’t need luck: she beat him once and she can do it again. She vows to have the last laugh and walks away, but Victor’s laughing already.
Nikki doesn’t understand why Victor gave anything to Phyllis. Victor reminds her that Phyllis helped save Nick’s life.
Nikki wants to resolve things between the two of them and asks if she’ll be moving back into the GCAC today or returning to the ranch with Victor.
Phyllis has gotten herself a table and sits alone fuming about Matt’s absence. She fires off a text demanding to know where he’s gone and why he left.
The Shadow Room – Noah Catches Matt Talking to Sienna Again, Then Pushes Her Too Far Trying to Keep Her Away From Him
Matt’s phone chimes with a text from Phyllis, and he peeks at it for a moment before turning his attention back to Sienna.
Sienna doesn’t think she has the power to change anyone’s mind about Matt. She’s new to the Newman family dynamic, still an outsider. Matt thinks she has sway with Noah, at least.
Sienna admits that she did actually tell Noah she believed Matt’s story, but Noah wasn’t moved.
Matt complains that Sienna is his last hope. Sienna says it’s not her problem: it’s Matt’s. Matt says he has a chance to be happy here and argues that they had a chance to be happy, too. Sienna is appalled and says all they had were lies. Matt says they still had a chance: he just blew it.
Matt says he wants peace, not just for himself but for her and everyone else, too.
Sienna agrees to try but warns that if he’s playing her, she will not be as clumsy with her second attempt to kill him.
Noah enters and is enraged to see Matt in his club talking to Sienna again. Noah says he intends to see to it that Matt leaves town. Matt suggests that instead they could just leave each other alone and live in peace.
Noah tells Matt to get out of his bar. Matt leaves and Noah wants to know what they were talking about; he hopes Matt only came to say his final goodbye.
Noah insists that Matt is preying on Sienna’s good nature, and Sienna is tired of Noah’s heroics. She doesn’t think she needs to be rescued from Matt.
Noah can’t believe she’s gone soft on this maniac.
Sienna and Noah fight for a while over Matt, and Sienna insists that nobody can manipulate or control her, not even Noah. She leaves Noah with his thoughts.
Genoa City Athletic Club – Nikki Asks Victor to Deal With Matt Clark and Matt Informs Victor That He’s Removed His Tracking Bracelet and Shacked Up With Phyllis
Victor tells Nikki he thinks it’s very clear where he stands and Nikki says she wouldn’t be asking if it were.
Victor says that he of course wants her to stay at the ranch. Nikki specifically asks if they still have a marriage, or if her friendship with Jack is going to remain an obstacle. Victor begs her to stop talking about Jack Abbott. She admits that she never will, but she still loves Victor.
Victor says it seems that he either has to accept her friendship with “that loser” or they won’t have a future together. Nikki says there’s a third choice: he could admit he was wrong.
At her own table, Phyllis is growing impatient waiting to hear back from Matt.
She promises that Matt will wish he’d texted her and calls him and leaves a voicemail. She reminds him that they slept together before he ghosted her. She admits she’s confused because she thought there was a connection between them, and he didn’t even leave a note.
Her message is interrupted by Matt walking through the front door. He wishes her a good morning, but she still has some feelings to vent about his absence. He took his bag and everything!
Matt says his bag is under her bed, and he just didn’t want to wake her because when she sleeps she has the face of “a really hot angel.” Phyllis’s heart melts instantly. She’s reassured by his return but asks him not to listen to her voicemail. Matt’s excited to hear it.
Phyllis admits that her mind went straight to worst case scenarios and asks what Matt was doing this morning. He said he had to meet with an old friend, and Phyllis is surprised to hear that he has friends. He admits his “old friend” is more of an “old wife,” and he thinks she’s the key to his salvation.
Phyllis remembers one story about Matt’s ex-wife: her clobbering him over the head with a rock outside Vegas. Matt doesn’t blame Sienna for that: he credits her attack for his personality change. Phyllis asks if he’s waiting for her to find a bigger boulder.
Matt admits that he thinks of Sienna as an ally and hopes she can convince the Newmans to accept his redemption.
Phyllis thinks that’s hopeless: the Newmans simply aren’t forgiving people. She thinks they must blame him for everything, including Nick’s drug overdose during which they saved his life. Phyllis thinks Sienna has joined the Newmans, and it’s best for Matt to trust no one.
Back at Nikki and Victor’s table, Nikki is objecting to Victor’s opinion that her alignment with Jack is a betrayal of him. She loves Victor, but Jack is her friend, and she can’t ignore what Victor did to him.
Victor doesn’t think Nikki understands how losing Newman Enterprises affected him, and then as a follow-up he lost her, for the second time, over Jack Abbott. Nikki points out that it was Victor who threw her out.
Victor admits he shouldn’t have pushed her away and apologizes. Nikki thanks him, and says she can get over what happened with Jack if Victor can forget what he thinks happened with Jack that night in the hotel room, when he was helping her to get sober. She can’t give up her friendship with Jack.
Victor says that his love for Nikki is stronger than his hatred for Jack Abbott, and asks her to come home.
They talk about how much they missed each other during their estrangement, and Nikki notices Phyllis talking to Matt Clark across the room. Victor admits he’s known about Phyllis and Matt for a while. He promises to deal with them later, but Nikki would rather he address it right now. She asks him to be her hero and make sure Matt can never hurt their family again.
Victor and Nikki intrude on Phyllis and Matt’s conversation, and Phyllis objects that it’s a private conversation. Victor simply says he isn’t talking to her and turns toward Matt.
Victor asks where Matt’s ankle monitor is. Matt admits he left it at the ranch, complaining it was itchy. Victor says it’s not a good idea to ignore his instructions. Matt says he had every intention of honoring their agreement, he just needs a little breathing room.
Victor says he was very clear, and Matt admits that he was, but he wants to make some changes to their terms: he’s moving off the ranch and shacking up with his girl, Phyllis. Victor says they’ll see about that.

Mariah returns from the psychiatric hospital.
Danny tells Christine he intends to stay in Genoa City as a rock club manager.
Victor wants to have a recommitment ceremony with Nikki.
