Kev Barton eventually revealed, during a drunken admission, that he was actually behind the assault. Billy was also forced to confront the fact that Dawn had not been honest with him. She had blamed Joe because she wanted Billy to support her plan to escape the village with the children.

Billy initially confronted Kev and demanded answers. He wanted to know whether Joe had ordered the attack, but Kev attempted to make the incident sound like an unfortunate accident. Eventually, however, he admitted that Caleb and Ruby Milligan knew about what had happened.

Billy then tried to speak to Dawn at the cafe, hoping she would finally explain everything. Before they could have a proper conversation, Joe arrived and took Dawn away.

Frustrated, Billy went directly to Caleb and Ruby. Neither gave him a convincing explanation. Caleb attempted to argue that, regardless of whether Joe was behind the attack, Joe was still a terrible person because of his past actions.

Billy was furious and branded Caleb a poisonous snake, warning both Caleb and Ruby to stay out of his relationship with Dawn and stop dragging him into their war with Joe.

After talking things through with Marlon Dingle at the pub, Billy decided that the truth could no longer remain hidden. He returned to Home Farm intending to confront Dawn with what he had discovered.

But Dawn had an emotional request of her own.

She told Billy that if he had changed his mind about escaping, she would leave with the children without him. Although their relationship had ended, Dawn admitted that Billy was still the person she trusted most. She reminded him that he remained an important figure in the children’s lives and asked him to help secure their passports and make arrangements for their departure.

Billy was faced with an agonizing decision. Instead of revealing everything he knew about Kev, Caleb and Ruby, he chose to remain silent. He reassured Dawn that he supported her plan and would help her and the children leave.

Yet their escape is far from guaranteed.

Caleb and Ruby have made it clear that the fake passports will not be handed over until they have completed their revenge against Joe on his wedding day.
