DOOL INTERVIEW SLIP-UP Dan Feuerriegel Accidentally Reveals John Oliver’s Shocking Storyline

Salem is about to get a very unexpected visitor, and this time, the surprise is bigger than anyone could have imagined. Days of Our Lives is preparing to welcome late-night television personality John Oliver into its chaotic world, and according to comments from Dan Feuerriegel, his appearance is anything but an ordinary celebrity cameo.

Oliver is not simply stepping into Salem to deliver a few lines and disappear into the background. Apparently, he wanted the complete daytime-soap experience. That means an outrageous character name, an unforgettable wig, intense confrontations and, most importantly, physical drama. And somehow, the show managed to give him exactly what he wanted.

Oliver’s character is named Devlin Saint John, a name that sounds as though it was specifically created for someone who arrives in Salem carrying secrets, wealth and trouble. The character already sounds larger than life, and Dan Feuerriegel, who plays EJ DiMera, recently offered fans a revealing glimpse into what viewers can expect.

During an interview about working with Oliver, Feuerriegel seemingly let a major storyline detail slip. He explained that Oliver came prepared with a surprisingly specific list of requests. The actor reportedly wanted a wig, a ridiculous soap-opera name and an opportunity to participate in one of the genre’s most recognizable traditions: a good old-fashioned slap fight.

And apparently, the production team was more than happy to accommodate him.

Feuerriegel revealed that he and Oliver actually filmed physical scenes together, with the two characters exchanging blows. In classic Salem fashion, the confrontation is expected to deliver exactly the kind of exaggerated drama that daytime fans love. EJ gets slapped, he responds, and Devlin Saint John immediately proves that he is not someone who will simply stand around while EJ tries to intimidate him.

But beneath all the comedy and campiness, there is a much more serious reason this confrontation matters.

EJ is vulnerable.

According to Feuerriegel’s comments, EJ is dealing with an illness when Devlin enters his life. That revelation could completely change the balance of power between these two men. EJ has spent much of this storyline trying to maintain control while his latest scheme collapses around him, but now his physical condition may leave him unable to fight back in the way he normally would.

And the timing could not be worse.

EJ’s enormous pharmaceutical cover-up is rapidly unraveling. He attempted to protect himself by planting tainted Corell pills in Holly Jonas’ belongings, effectively making a teenager take the blame for a crime connected to his own actions. But Holly eventually discovered the truth, and once she realized what EJ had done, she was furious.

The consequences are now closing in.

Instead of controlling the situation, EJ is watching everything he carefully constructed fall apart. His reputation is damaged, his enemies are becoming bolder, and even the people around him are no longer willing to protect him. Gabi Hernandez, meanwhile, appears more than happy to enjoy EJ’s suffering and keep pushing his buttons.

EJ’s assistant Rita is also being pulled deeper into the crisis, forcing them to consider increasingly desperate measures as the pressure continues to build.

Then there is another devastating situation unfolding at the hospital.

Lexi’s health has taken another heartbreaking turn after Dr. Ralph’s treatment fails to provide the hoped-for solution. Once again, her life is hanging in the balance, leading to emotional scenes involving Abe and Theo. Abe’s anger toward EJ reaches a boiling point, and EJ is ultimately thrown out of the hospital room.

The situation becomes physical, leaving EJ beaten down at precisely the moment when he is already struggling emotionally and physically.

That makes Devlin Saint John’s arrival even more significant.

EJ is accustomed to being the smartest and most powerful person in the room. He manipulates people, controls information and uses his influence to get what he wants. But Devlin may be different. Feuerriegel described the character as an intellectual match for EJ, suggesting that this conflict will not simply be about who can throw the hardest punch.

Devlin can challenge EJ mentally.

And that could be far more dangerous.

While viewers will undoubtedly laugh at the ridiculous wig and the over-the-top name, the confrontation may have genuine consequences for EJ. A weakened DiMera facing someone capable of matching his intelligence could create one of the most entertaining rivalries Salem has seen in quite some time.

Interestingly, Feuerriegel also had plenty to say about Oliver himself.

Soap production is notoriously demanding. Actors are expected to memorize enormous amounts of dialogue while working at an extremely fast pace, with episodes filmed well ahead of their broadcast dates. There is little room for someone unfamiliar with daytime television to arrive unprepared.

According to Feuerriegel, Oliver handled the challenge remarkably well.

Rather than struggling with the huge amount of dialogue, Oliver reportedly arrived knowing his material and was able to keep pace with the cast. Feuerriegel also described him as friendly, professional and easy to work with, suggesting that the late-night host quickly adapted to the unusual rhythm of daytime drama.

One of the funniest behind-the-scenes details involved Oliver’s height.

Feuerriegel admitted that he was surprised by how tall Oliver actually is. When they first met on set, Oliver was already wearing the character’s wig and costume, meaning Feuerriegel initially saw Devlin Saint John rather than the familiar face associated with late-night television.

It was only later, once Oliver was out of character, that Feuerriegel fully realized how tall his co-star was.

Considering that the two men were filmed standing face-to-face during their physical confrontation, their scenes could be quite a sight. Seeing EJ DiMera and Devlin Saint John going toe-to-toe promises to be one of those wonderfully absurd soap moments fans will probably remember for a long time.

There was another challenge behind Oliver’s appearance: Days of Our Lives films months in advance.

The show could not simply decide at the last second to insert a new character into an episode that had already been planned. The writers and production team reportedly had to find a way to create space for Oliver within storylines that were already being constructed.

That alone demonstrates how much effort went into making this guest appearance happen.

And while Devlin Saint John is preparing to cause trouble for EJ, practically every corner of Salem is already experiencing its own crisis.

The younger generation is especially chaotic.

Aaron Green has returned to town and is working with Ari on a plan involving Tate and Holly. They are attempting to arrange a surprise outing for the pair, apparently unaware of just how badly things have deteriorated between them.

Tate and Holly are still dealing with the devastating fallout from the drug scandal, making the idea of forcing them into a social situation together potentially disastrous.

Meanwhile, Rachel Black is struggling with Kristen’s disappearance. Rachel confides in Brady about how much she misses her mother, while Kristen’s recent movements continue to create uncertainty. After escaping EJ’s kidnapping transport, Kristen remains a major loose end, and Rachel is carrying the emotional burden of knowing more about the situation than she can comfortably explain.

Elsewhere, Alex and Chanel find themselves spending time together in Horton Town Square as they bond over their children, Kelsey and Trey. Yet the atmosphere is complicated by the problems surrounding Alex’s marriage to Stephanie.

Chanel can clearly see that Alex’s relationship is falling apart, while she is facing an enormous emotional battle of her own.

At home, Chanel shares an especially painful moment with Paulina as they confront the frightening reality surrounding Chanel’s breast cancer. The scenes are expected to be deeply emotional, adding another layer of seriousness to an already overwhelming week in Salem.

Alex and Stephanie’s marriage is also reaching a breaking point.

Alex suggests staying at the Brady Pub so they can remain close to Kelsey and Joy Wesley, but Stephanie reacts strongly. To her, the suggestion represents something much bigger than a simple change of location. She feels as though Alex is choosing his responsibilities as a father over their marriage.

Devastated, Stephanie turns to Jada for support.

But Jada already has another mystery consuming her time.

Lani has recruited her to investigate why Lexi left town alone and what really happened surrounding Kristen’s disappearance. What Jada does not yet understand is how deeply EJ’s failed kidnapping scheme is connected to the mystery.

With so many secrets circulating through Salem, her investigation could eventually uncover information that someone desperately wants to keep hidden.

And then, right in the middle of all this chaos, Devlin Saint John arrives.

He has the ridiculous name. He has the wild wig. He has the attitude. Most importantly, he apparently has no fear of challenging EJ DiMera.

EJ, meanwhile, is sick, exhausted and surrounded by enemies.

That makes their upcoming showdown especially intriguing.

What begins as a campy celebrity appearance could turn into a surprisingly important chapter in EJ’s current downfall. Devlin may be funny, but he is not necessarily harmless. If he truly is EJ’s intellectual equal, then the DiMera patriarch could finally have someone capable of defeating him at his own game.

So expect plenty of drama when John Oliver makes his Days of Our Lives debut.

Well, this happened 🤭 Can't wait for y'all to enjoy the shenanigans. John crushes it #daysofourlives #JohnOliver

There will be outrageous soap-opera theatrics, massive amounts of dialogue, unexpected physical comedy and, yes, those highly anticipated slaps.

But beneath the laughs could be a much darker story.

EJ’s health, his collapsing cover-up and his growing list of enemies have left him more exposed than ever. Now Devlin Saint John is walking directly into his path.

And if Feuerriegel’s interview is any indication, Salem is about to discover that this strange new arrival may be far more dangerous than his ridiculous wig and outrageous name suggest.

The real question is not whether Devlin will challenge EJ.

It is how much damage he will do once he does.
